Currently, at Broken Bread, our main community service program is sorting food at the Salvation Army Food Bank. We take a shift each Sunday from 10:30am to 12:30pm. We hope to eventually take an additional weekly 2-hour shift as volunteers step forward.
Local grocery stores donate a large quantity of food that was previously sent to the landfill. However, most of this food can be redirected to good use! That is our job. The food arrives in bins and we sort through each bin and redirect it to the food bank, farmers, or the landfill as appropriate. This is resulting in literal tonnes of food becoming available for those in need.
This is a fantastic program and if you want to get involved talk to us during any of our Tuesday services where there is a sign-up sheet available.
